Hi, I'm Yakobo
Smart mineralogist's developer
I am a Tanzanian citizen with Bachelor’s degree in both Computer science and Geology. I started developing Smart mineralogist in 2014 and completed it after 2 and half years. The idea for the app came out of my undergraduate studies where it was so hard to get mineral information in the field. When I needed hard data for a mineral I didn't know, I had to carry heavy books or ask my peers and tutors, which was highly inconvenient. Lack of cellphone reception in the field made matters worse. After I graduated, I wasn't employed immediately, as is common in our country, so if found myself with a lot of free time. I used the time to develop Smart mineralogist to what it is today, a truly offline pocket mineral app with 5,000+ mineral data at your fingertips.
Off course, that was 10 years ago and things have changed significantly since then. I no longer have as much free time as I used to, however, I am still dedicated to maintaining the app. I work on it whenever I am free to squash bugs and make sure support for newer Android versions is always available. As for new content, this is something I cannot promise will get implemented but, I am more interested in adding new mineral photos. If interested in donating your mineral photos to the app, please contact me on the following E-mail: smartmineralogist@yakobo.org. Also, please do so if and only if you are ok with the conditions below...
