This section explains how to use App migration on Android versions 4.4.x as well as explain the possible issues that may arise from using it on that platform. Again, if you are unsure of your android version, go to your device’s 'Settings > About phone > Android version'. Try to compare the numbers shown there with the following numbers:
4.4, 4.4.1, 4.4.2, 4.4.3, 4.4.4
It should be pointed out that 'App migration' is not supported on the above mentioned android versions (popularly known as KitKat) due to the restrictions it introduced on writing files to SD Cards. This is not a developer issue but a problem with Android KitKat itself. Smart mineralogist has a workaround to attempt to write to your SD Card but it is not reliable. What that means is there are devices where it does work perfectly and others where it outright fails and corrupts the Smart mineralogist installation, forcing you to re-download the app. Use this tool at your own risk. If you want perfect reliability, then upgrade to any other Android version apart from KitKat. If you want to try your luck, then keep on reading below…
App migration on Standby, Android 4.4.x KitKat
App migration will launch to a window with a grid of rectangular cards which represents all the available storage options on your device. Attached USB storage disks or memory pens are ignored.
If your device lacks additional storage options, then only your primary storage will be shown, represented by a Phone or Tablet Icon.
The storage option containing the App’s assets will have a solid bold white border as well as the word 'occupied' underneath its icon.
The storage options where you can move the asset files will contain a modest white border as well as the available space the App is allowed to use for moving purposes.
The tool will auto remove all legacy asset files it finds on your device, which might have been left there due to uninstalls or app upgrades (assuming it managed to work the first time).
To move the asset files to another storage location, simply…
Tap any card (storage option) which is not 'occupied'.
If no issues arise, a pop up window will show up and ask you to confirm the moving operation. Tap 'Yes' to accept.
Again, if no issues arise, you will see a copying progress window transferring the files.
Upon a successful completion, you should have freed from 68 MB or higher of space from your internal storage.
If successful, App assets transfer will begin.
If successful, App migration will confirm it by showing a solid bold border on your new storage option that now houses the assets. It will also contain the text 'occupied' underneath its icon. Failure will result in the App failing to initialize itself, forcing you to re-download it again from the Play Store™.
App assets successfully moved to the SD Card.
