Smart mineralogist is a large app and requires a significant investment in your internal storage. Future updates will aggravate this fact when additional photos and data are going to be added. To alleviate this shortcoming, Smart mineralogist now included an 'App migration' tool that allows you to shift all its assets to a separate storage of your choice, and saving you valuable internal storage space in the process.
Android 4.4, 99.75MB before migration
Android 4.4, 30.93MB after migration
To launch this tool, simply open the Navigation menu and choose 'App migration'. The tool works in a similar manner to the legacy 'Move to SD Card' functionally that was deprecated starting with Android™ 6.0. Due to these similarities, this tool will conflict with any other 'Move to SD Card' tool or apps that can manipulate Smart mineralogist and it will refuse to launch should it detect the App has moved outside of the standard installation directory. Also keep in mind that should you remove, lose or damage the SD card you used with this tool, then you will also lose all app functionality until you either restore the SD card or re-download the App from the Play Store™.
Also be warned … when you are about to update the App, you MUST return the assets files to their original destination or the Play Store™ app will respond by re-downloading the asset files again, wasting valuable bandwidth in the process.
Before we proceed, you should be aware of the warnings associated with running Smart mineralogist on the SD card. As stated on the App’s listing page, a fast SD card is required to comfortably use Smart mineralogist from there or severe performance anomalies will be felt. You are still advised to use a Class 10 or higher micro SD cards to negate these issues. Should the App’s performance become too severe, you can still use this tool to transfer its assets back to internal storage.
This tool will behave differently depending on the Android version you are using hence it’s important to familiarize yourself with the instructions provided for your target platform. If you are unsure of the Android version your using, go to 'Settings > About phone > Android version'. The number provided there should guide you on which of the next group of instructions are appropriate for you.
Finally, be aware that Android 10 seemed to be bugged on some vendors. Should you choose to open the Settings App, and browse the Smart mineralogist’s 'Storage' page, and choose to 'clear all data', Android will delete all asset files relating to Smart mineralogist, either or not this tool was used. Until that bug is fixed, I recommend you do not clear Smart mineralogist’s data, or use apps that can do the same thing.
