Each of the 5,000+ minerals present in the Smart mineralogist database can be browsed for study on their properties. That’s where the 'Mineral Details' section comes in. It serves to give you a complete reference of any mineral in one area. This tool is started every time you tap a mineral item or card from any tool available throughout this App. Each instance of the tool will only display one mineral hence it’s not possible for this tool to show multiple minerals. If you need a comparison tool, the various 'Resources' tools are more suitable for such tasks.
Mineral details toolbar
The Mineral Details Toolbar has four Action icons with two of them exclusive to it. They are the App Search, Dealers’ network, Research and External search, in a left to right order.
App Search: Tapping this icon will expand the app search interface and allow you to search for other minerals. Opting to tap a search suggestion will create an instance of another 'Mineral Details' interface to display it. See the 'Introduction > App Search' topic to learn how to effectively use this tool.
Dealers’ network: Minerals with complete, undamaged crystal faces are rare and sought after commodities by mineral collectors. It is highly possible to own your very own collection should you choose to do so. Tapping this icon will provide you with a list of online dealers specializing in selling fine mineral specimens. Choosing any dealer will link Smart mineralogist to their stock of available minerals for sale relative to the mineral you were browsing. As a developer, I do not earn any commission for promoting these stores. They are included simply for your convenience (please also read our EULA and Privacy policy). An active internet connection is required to use this feature.
Research: Smart mineralogist hosts 5 fundamental properties of minerals, namely composition, physical, optical, crystallography and classification. While studying these properties, you can tap the 'Research' icon to launch the Learn mineralogy guide pointed at the property you were studying.
External search: In addition to app searches, Smart mineralogist will link to your default browser to perform additional web searches just in case you were not able to find the data you were looking for in App. Tapping the overflow icon will give you two categories that allow you to do so. These are 'External search' and 'External databases' Similar to Dealers’ network above, your search term is relative to the mineral name you are studying:
External search: Options included here allow you to link Smart mineralogist to popular web search services, and initiates your mineral search directly. Some of the options on the list include Google™ and Wikipedia™.
External databases: Options included here allow you to link Smart mineralogist to other web based mineral databases. Some of the options included are MinDat, RRUFF and Handbook of Mineralogy databases.
