The Mineral details interface contains basic information about the mineral with options to show more advanced properties should you choose.
Mineral details section of the mineral baryte
The first item on the interface is the IMA recognized name of the mineral followed by the CNMNC-approved formula. If the formula is longer than the provided textbox, then try to manually scroll it left or right to show additional content.
Please read the 'Composition > Chemical Formulae' topic in the "Learn Mineralogy" section to know more about the chemical formulae standards used by this App.
After the name/formula combo is the Image of the mineral (if available).
The Mineral details interface is split in two for wide screen devices. The left fragment (top if on portrait mode) of the two will hold the elements described in this introduction, while the right fragment (bottom if on portrait mode) holds the 5 properties of the minerals and their images.
After the images is a 'Summary' section providing additional information about the studied mineral such as IMA numbers and country of discovery (see the 'Mineralogy' chapter of "Learn Mineralogy"). The Summary is followed by the 5 properties comprising of Composition, Physical, Optical, Crystallographic and Classification.
Optical properties selected.
For wide screen devices, Smart mineralogist will always display the advanced properties options above the summary.
Smart mineralogist ships with an assortment of images. A single mineral may have its own dedicated group of images. These are shown below the chemical formula enclosed in a dedicated image viewer. If a mineral does not have any images, a default crystal shape will occupy the viewer.
Image viewer on tablet devices.
If more than one image is available, the viewer will indicate it by a forwards pointing arrow at the bottom right of the viewer. The arrow is an invitation for you to swipe the viewer from right to left causing it to expose additional images. Taping the arrows will also produce the same effect. This process is reversible with swipes from left to right to return to previously browsed images. A similar left pointing arrow will now be visible on the lower left side of the viewer to guide you to swipe back to previous images.
All images used in Smart mineralogist are copyrighted to their respective owners and used under permission. The copyright information can be found below the image and on the 'Legal' section of the guide that ships with the app.
For wide screen devices, Smart mineralogist displays its images on the right side of its fragmented screen. These devices also have a dedicated 'Gallery' option above 'The 5 properties' to allow you to return to the Image viewer after browsing any other property.
Just in case you’re interested in adding the mineral you’re studying to your list of favorites, there is a blue or yellow floating button always present on the lower right corner of the Mineral details screen (center for tablets). Tapping this button is one of two methods you can add a mineral to your favorites list. For the second method, see the 'Home Options > Favorites' topic under this guide.
On its default state, the button shows a hollow star icon, which indicates the mineral your studying does not belong to the favorites list. Tapping the button will turn its icon into a solid star and a text confirmation will update you on the successful entry of the mineral to your favorites. This technique is reversible if you wish to remove the mineral from favorites. This button will also display a solid star icon should you open to study a mineral already in the favorites list.
