The history tool is Smart mineralogist’s default logging tool. Should you ever browse an interesting mineral to end up forgetting its name, the history tool is the first place to start. Every time you browse a mineral, Smart mineralogist automatically records the date and time you browsed that mineral and saves it as a log card. The log is incremental and will auto-update every time you browse the same mineral more than once. Each time you launch the tool, it will automatically retrieve the App’s logs and provide you with a list of available minerals that you browsed.
History tool with eight log cards
The History tool has two Toolbar action icons. The left most icon is the search icon which initializes the App’s search interface. See the 'Introduction > App search' topic to learn how to effectively use this tool. The right icon is an overflow menu with two options. The first option allows you to clear all your browsing history. See "Clearing your History" at the end of this page. The second option can configure the history tool’s text scrolling behavior. By default, Smart mineralogist will auto-scroll long names or dates if it cannot fit in the single text line of any mineral card. Tap this option to disable text scrolling on the History section only.
By default, Smart mineralogist initializes to the 'Favorites' tool when launched. However, should you wish to launch directly to the History tool, you can enable it in App settings.
Since version 1.07, Smart mineralogist does impose a limit on the number of history logs the app can store. The limit ranges between 0 and 1000 which can be modified in App settings.
You can prevent the history tool from saving any log entries. This option is disabled by default but can be enabled in App settings.
The history tool sorts its list based on the time the mineral was browsed with the most recent entries displayed first. When open, you will be presented with a list of cards similar in appearance but unique in the data they hold for each mineral log. Each card has a mini-portrait of the mineral Image on the left, the name and date/time on the center followed by the study count and delete button on the right.

When on wide screen devices and landscape orientation, the history log cards will only occupy half the screen while the other half is occupied by a Summary section. This summary will display additional information of the most recent log card such as chemical formula and larger images.
If you would like to delete a single card from the list, you can do so by tapping the delete button on the top right corner of the card you want removed. If you tap any of the cards on the history list, you will be directed to the 'Mineral details' page of the mineral.
You can modify the behavior of the card delete button in the App settings such that it notifies you each time you are about to delete a log card. Enabling this feature will cause the app to prompt you for delete verification each time you press the button. This feature is disabled by default.
If you would like to delete multiple cards, press and hold the card you want to delete until the toolbar turn black with a single action button. This action will highlight your card for deletion. Tap the any other card you want to be deleted and tap the sole action button to complete the action. If you would like to clear your whole history, you can do so by tapping the overflow icon on the Toolbar and selecting the 'Clear History' option. Verify the prompt that follows and your done.
